Gutter replacement

Guttering that has cracked, sagged out of its correct fall, or simply reached the end of its working life stops doing the one job it exists for, carrying rainwater away from your walls and foundations, and starts making the problem worse instead. A full gutter replacement with modern uPVC, fitted to a correct fall, is usually more cost effective long term than repeatedly patching an old system.

Signs it is time to replace rather than repair

• Multiple sections cracked or split, rather than a single isolated joint
• Visible sagging along the run where brackets have failed or the fascia behind has rotted
• Old cast iron or asbestos guttering, both of which have reached or exceeded their practical service life
• Repeated overflow at joints even after cleaning, suggesting the fall itself is wrong
• Fascia boards behind the gutter showing rot, which usually needs addressing at the same time

What full replacement involves

The old guttering, brackets and downpipes come off, the fascia behind is checked and repaired if needed, and new uPVC guttering is fitted with the correct fall toward the downpipe outlets, properly supported with brackets at the correct spacing to prevent future sagging. uPVC does not rust, rot or need painting, and usually lasts decades with minimal maintenance beyond regular cleaning.

Downpipe positioning is checked and corrected as part of the job too, an outlet positioned wrong, or a downpipe undersized for the roof area it drains, causes overflow even on brand new guttering, so we size and position the whole system correctly rather than simply replicate what was there before if it was never right in the first place.

Often done alongside roofline work

Since gutters are fixed to the fascia, and fascia rot is one of the main causes of gutter failure in the first place, replacement is frequently done as part of a wider roofline job. Old cast iron guttering removed from a period property is disposed of responsibly, and where you would prefer to keep sections of it for another use, we can set them aside rather than send them straight to waste.

Squareline and half round profiles

uPVC guttering comes in a few standard profiles, half round being the most common on ordinary housing, and squareline giving a more contemporary look often chosen on extensions or newer builds. Deep flow and other larger capacity profiles exist for roofs shedding a particularly high volume of water, and we will recommend the correct capacity for your roof area rather than fit an undersized system that overflows in heavy rain regardless of how new it is.
