A blocked gutter looks like a small problem until it has been ignored for a year or two. Water overflowing at one point runs down brickwork, soaks into render, and in winter freezes and expands in the joints, which is a far more expensive fix than the clean would ever have been. We treat gutter cleaning as roof maintenance, not a side job, because it is often the first thing to go wrong that leads to something worse.

What we actually do

We do not just scoop the visible leaves off the top. Every gutter run is cleared from a proper access point, moss, silt, roof grit and leaf debris removed right along the run, downpipes checked and cleared if blocked, and outlets and hoppers checked to make sure water is actually leaving the system rather than just sitting lower in the gutter.

What blocked guttering actually costs you

A gutter that overflows repeatedly is not a minor inconvenience, it sends water down the same stretch of wall every time it rains, and that water finds its way into brickwork, render and eventually the foundations underneath. In winter, water sitting in a blocked gutter freezes and expands, which can crack plastic guttering or force joints apart, turning a cleaning job into a repair or replacement job if left long enough. Regular cleaning is genuinely one of the cheapest ways to protect the rest of the roof and the walls below it.

How often it needs doing

A property surrounded by trees, particularly overhanging deciduous trees, usually needs a clean once or twice a year. A more open property can often go longer. We will tell you honestly what your gutters actually need rather than push a maintenance contract you do not need.

What we find while we are up there

Gutter cleaning is often when we spot the early signs of a bigger problem: a cracked fascia board, a joint that has started leaking, or moss building up on the roof itself feeding straight into the blockage. What to do if you notice overflow between visits

If you spot water spilling over the edge of a gutter during heavy rain, that is worth acting on rather than waiting for a scheduled clean, since it usually means a blockage has already built up enough to matter. A quick call gets it seen to before the next spell of wet weather does any further damage to the wall or fascia behind it.

Gutter guards and mesh

Gutter guards or mesh covers reduce, but do not eliminate, the need for cleaning, fine debris and moss can still build up underneath them over time, and a poorly fitted guard can sometimes make a blockage harder to spot and clear rather than easier. New build and older properties alike

Newer properties are not exempt from gutter problems simply because the guttering itself is younger. Modern roof designs with valleys, multiple pitches and box gutters can channel a surprising volume of water into a small number of outlets, and those outlets block just as readily as an older, simpler system. We clean whatever configuration your roof has, not just the straightforward single-run properties.

Autumn is the busiest time, book ahead

Demand for gutter cleaning rises sharply through autumn as leaves come down, and booking ahead of the rush rather than waiting until a gutter is already overflowing gets it dealt with before the wettest part of the year arrives.
